Artist: Dilated Peoples
Bio
Dilated Peoples is a hip-hop group that has achieved great fame in the underground hip-hop community, although their only real mainstream success was the song This Way, a 2004 collaboration with Kanye West.
DJ Babu (from the DJ crew Beat Junkies), Evidence, and Rakaa joined together in 1992 in Los Angeles, CA and released Third Degree and Work The Angles, which were quickly established as favorites in the underground scene and among rap critics. They eventually signed to Capitol and in 2000 released The Platform, to more critical acclaim. Their sophomore set Expansion Team was released in 2001, led by the Alchemist-produced single Worst Comes To Worst, which sampled from Mobb Deep's Survival Of The Fittest. Their third album, Neighborhood Watch, was released in 2004 and debuted at #55 on USA's Billboard 200 Albums Chart. In addition to the Kanye West-produced single, This Way, it also featured the single Who's Who?, which was also included as a track on the Need for Speed: Underground and SSX 3 soundtracks, and peaked at #35 on the UK Singles Chart.
In 2006, they returned with the single Back Again, produced by The Alchemist. The trio's fourth album, 20/20, debuted on February 21, 2006.
In 2007 they released The Release Party. This package included a feature-length documentary on DVD as well as EP featuring new songs and remixes. The film, released through Decon, is a celebration of the release from their contract with Capital.

Dilated Peoples — 20/20 - ChartAttack (Reviews)
If consistency was the hallmark of a great music career, Dilated Peoples would be headed for the hip-hop hall of fame. They might be going there anyway, based on the rock-solid beats and rhymes that make up their fourth major-label release. 20/20 incorporates some fresh production concepts, including the Kanye-like high-pitched vocal samples that adorn "Back Again" and "You Can't Hide, You Can't Run," but the Peoples don't stray too far from the backpacker basics.
Evidence and Rakaa still spend most of their time slicing and dicing wack MCs with Ginsu-sharp battle rhymes, and DJ Babu throws in plenty of colour with his expert turntablism. But the group also seem to have a greater agenda this time. "Kindness For Weakness," featuring Talib Kweli, is a statement of street cred that, in its own way, is as hard as any gangsta track. They haven't made any giant creative leaps, but Dilated Peoples keep delivering the goods.
Dilated Peoples — Neighborhood Watch - ChartAttack (Reviews)
If Dilated Peoples are planning to sell out, they’re doing it right: with baby steps, growing slightly more accessible with each album. This way, three albums from now, they’ll be doing songs about how much they’re lovin’ McDonald’s between songs about their diamond-studded hubcaps and their former diehard backpacker fans will just shrug and go, "Hey, at least we saw it coming." This is another rock solid Dilated album that starts slow, then picks up the pace with the hard funk of "Trying To Breathe" and slick sampling on "Reach Us." Then there’s Dilated’s own version of Talib Kweli’s "Get By" called "This Way," featuring/produced by Kanye West.
