Artist: Interpol
Bio
At least two bands share their name with the International Criminal Police Organisation, in short Interpol.
1. Interpol is an indie rock band based in New York City, United States, that took an important part in the post-punk revival of the 2000s. The band consists of Paul Banks (vocals and guitar), Sam Fogarino (drums), and Daniel Kessler (guitar and backing vocals).
Interpol's sound is characterized by a mix of bass throb and choppy, sparse guitar. They have been compared to Joy Division, Echo & The Bunnymen and The Chameleons for their similarly stark, sombre sound and obtuse, abstract lyrics.
The band formed in 1998 when Daniel Kessler met drummer Greg Drudy, now a member of post-hardcore/screamo band Hot Cross, on the New York University campus. Kessler later added Carlos D. on the bass after meeting him in a history class. The line-up was complete after Kessler ran into Paul Banks, a friend whom he had met in Paris. In 2000, Sam Fogarino, whom the band knew through his job at a local record store, replaced Drudy. Carlos Dengler, who was responsible for bass and keyboards, left the band in 2010. Interpol haven't definitely replaced him. But announced various names to help them perform live.
The band released Direction on the soundtrack of the television program 'Six Feet Under' on June 28, 2005. Shortly thereafter they left Matador for a major label.
Our Love to Admire was released on July 10, 2007 in the USA (July 9 in the UK) to generally favorable reviews. The Heinrich Maneuver was its first single.
The Band is working on another album, their fifth, they expect to release it late 2010 or around late march 2011.
2. There was also a German band called Interpol, active in the late 60s and early 70s as part of the emerging krautrock scene. They were associated with the famous early Krautrock band Floh de Cologne.

Interpol, 'Interpol' (Matador) - Spin (reviews)
At the core of every great Interpol song hangs a hook so barbed it could draw blood, no matter how heavy the surrounding goth atmospherics. But somewhere between 2004's Antics and the mostly tepid 2007 major-label debut Our Love to Admire, the noirish New Yorkers lost the monster sing-alongs and danceable rhythms that made early tracks "PDA" and "NYC" so captivating. That trajectory continues on their fourth album, as the group continues to drift where they once focused intently.
Which isn't to say that all is lost: "Barricade" reminds you of how much Carlos D.'s hip-swiveling bass lines will be missed now that he's left the band; and how the album's dynamic range could've been widened. "Lights" simmers toward a mostly epic climax, and "Always Malaise (The Man I Am)" wraps menace around a sticky chorus.
But the majority of Interpol is more dull than hypnotic: It tries to assemble skyscrapers, but ends up muddling around without a strong foundation. Though just ten tracks long, it can't muster a big finish, petering out with a pair of mid-tempo snoozers. When artists self-title albums, it's often a statement of purpose or of redefinition, but that's not the case here. Interpol sounds both strangely distant and overly familiar, like a band struggling to remember who they are.

Interpol to Tour With U2 - Pitchfork - News
When U2 continue their 360° tour this summer, they'll bring along fellow rock dino Lenny Kravitz, Coldplay detritus the Fray, and brooding New York rockers Interpol. After a solo turn from singer Paul Banks as well as various side projects, it looks like Interpol are solidifying a comeback this year-- their website currently reads INTERPOL 2010. They know what year it is.
Back in November, Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino said the band recorded a new album last spring and that it sounds more like their stunning debut LP Turn on the Bright Lights and less like their 2007 shit sandwich Our Love to Admire. Smart.

PJ Harvey, Interpol Join Haiti Auction - Pitchfork - News
Last week, Glastonbury Festival co-organizer Emily Eavis started a Haiti benefit auction on eBay, with all proceeds going to Oxfam. Among the items donated by rock stars was Damon Albarn's offer to sell an original song to the highest bidder. More items have been added to the auction, including a signed Interpol box set, a stage outfit from PJ Harvey, and a collection of 4AD memoribilia. And if you bid high enough, dance duo Groove Armada will remix your song.
After the jump, we've got more news about benefits for Haiti earthquake relief:
-- Pearl Jam's website reports that Eddie Vedder has put his cover of Bruce Springsteen's "My City in Ruins" from Springsteen's Kennedy Center tribute up for sale on Pearl Jam's Ten Club and iTunes, with sales going to benefit the Haitian relief effort from Artists for Peace and Justice.
-- MTV reports that BET is organizing its own Haiti relief telethon, "SOS Saving Ourselves: Help for Haiti". On February 5, the show will run live from Florida on BET, MTV, VH1, and Centric. Participants will include Diddy, Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, Ludacris, Justin Bieber, Robin Thicke, and Pharrell Williams, among others.
-- Will.I.Am tells Billboard that he's remixed the Who's "My Generation", with Slash on guitar. (Yikes.) The remix will air on TV during the Super Bowl, where the Who will be the halftime entertainment, on February 7. The next day, it'll be up for sale on iTunes, and sales will benefit earthquake relief. For a good cause, everyone!
-- 24 Hour Service Station has released Burnside Project's "Congratulations" b/w "Synchronized Spinning" single, with the money going to Doctors Without Borders.
-- Indie Rock Coloring Book author Andy J. Miller is auctioning off a copy of the Coloring Book, fully colored by Miller himself, on eBay, with money going to Partners in Health.
-- On January 31, the Feelies' Glenn Mercer will headline a benefit show for the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund at the Hoboken, New Jersey club Maxwell's.
-- In Los Angeles, the Pity Party, Pocohaunted, Letting Up Despite Great Faults, and others will play a January 30 benefit for Operation USA at Cinespace.
-- The folks at the Waxidermy message boards are auctioning off a number of rare records, including a handmade Grouper record, to benefit Haitian relief charities.

Obstacle 1 - Interpol (with lyrics)
© 2002 Matador Records I am NOT the owner of this song. I wish I could eat the salt off of your lost faded lips We can cap the old times, make playing only logical harm We can cap the old lines, make playing that nothing else will change But she can read, she can read, she can...
